  Women using this masjid do not have access to the same amenities in a prayer space as the men. For example, the door to the woman's entrance is not regularly opened at the same time the men's entrance is opened. A woman using the entrance has to knock on the locked door and wait for someone to open the door, or walk around to the men's entrance and pass through the prayer area in order to open the door to the woman's entrance. Males using the prayer hall are never similarly inconvenienced, because their door is always unlocked during community prayers. Another inequity is that the men enjoy a designated indoor space to store their shoes, while the women are told to leave ours in the common hallway. Not only is this discriminatory, but it is also a fire hazard! Unfortunately, such behavior is typical of the toxic masculinity that unabashedly infests the hearts and minds of too high a percentage of Muslim men all over the world; and shows up in the routine deprioritization and devaluation of female Muslim needs when planning a community prayer space. I usually leave the masjid with more concrete proof that Muslim male leadership intentionally treats the majority of their own species as unworthy of the right to worship in equally appointed prayer spaces. Perhaps a lawsuit is the only way to wake up the patriarchy from its delusional slumber.
